Three-screw extruders are engineered for superior dispersion and higher output. The free volume of the screws is increased by 40%, making powders such as carbon black and CaCO₃ easier to feed.
The intermeshing screws enable faster surface renewal, resulting in significantly better mixing performance than twin-screw extruders.
Structurally, the three-screw extruder features three screws arranged in a straight line and rotating in the same direction.
Compared with conventional twin-screw extruders, it has an additional high-shear zone, which doubles the plasticization and mixing performance of a comparable twin-screw extruder. Consequently, the throughput of the three-screw extruder is also twice that of a twin-screw extruder.
